Old mulch breaks down over time. The fabric underneath shifts, weeds start pushing through, and the whole area just starts looking tired and patchy. That's exactly what we were dealing with here - a fire pit space that had seen better days.

We stripped everything out. Old mulch, old fabric, all of it gone. From there, we brought in fresh dirt to build the area up and get a proper grade before anything else went down. That step matters more than people realize - skipping it means you're just covering up a problem instead of fixing it.

New landscape fabric went down first, then a fresh layer of dark mulch across the entire space. The result is a clean, even surface that actually holds its shape and keeps weeds from taking over. The fire pit sits centered in the space now, and the whole area just feels intentional.

This is the kind of work that makes an outdoor space usable again. Whether you're out there on a cool spring evening or hosting friends in the summer, you want that area to look good and function well. A proper mulch install with the right prep underneath is what gets you there - and it lasts.
