Bare spots are one of those things that bug homeowners every time they walk outside. You water, you wait, nothing fills in. That patchy, exposed dirt just sits there - and without the right approach, it stays that way.

Here's what we were working with: a large section of backyard that had lost most of its grass cover. Thin, struggling turf mixed with bare soil and not much else to show for it. This is a pretty common situation, especially in areas with heavy tree cover, foot traffic, or compacted ground.

What we did was work the area with fresh topsoil to give the seed a proper bed to take root in. Then we laid down quality grass seed and finished it off with a protective straw blanket. That blanket is key - it holds moisture, keeps the seed from washing away, and creates a stable environment for germination to happen consistently.

The result is a clean, even surface that's set up to grow in thick and strong. It's not flashy right after the work is done, but that's kind of the point. Good lawn repair is about giving grass the conditions it needs to do its thing - the payoff comes in the weeks ahead when coverage starts filling in.

We do this kind of work regularly, and the difference between a lawn that fills in well versus one that doesn't usually comes down to prep. Topsoil quality, seed selection, and proper coverage at the end all matter more than most people realize.
