Sometimes a front yard just needs a reset. The old arborvitaes had run their course - overgrown, tired, and pulling the whole look of the home down. It's one of those situations where patching things up isn't really worth it. Starting fresh is the right call.

We pulled the old shrubs out completely and replaced them with fresh Planet Earth arborvitaes. These aren't just a visual upgrade - they're healthy, properly sized, and set up to actually thrive. Placement matters a lot with foundation plantings, and we made sure everything was spaced and positioned to grow in clean rather than crowd out over time.

The beds got finished with premium cedar mulch. Cedar is one of our go-to choices for a reason. It looks sharp, it holds moisture well, and it naturally resists pests and breakdown better than standard wood mulch. That means less maintenance for you and a bed that holds its color and structure longer.

The retaining wall running along the front was already there doing its job, and the fresh mulch and new plantings really let it shine as part of the overall design rather than just a functional element. Little things like that make a big difference in how put-together a front yard looks from the street.

A front yard update like this doesn't have to be complicated. Swap out what isn't working, bring in quality materials, and finish it clean. That's what good landscaping maintenance comes down to - knowing when to refresh and doing it right when you do.
